How matching works

Six questions. Verified data. Real matches.

Our match algorithm scores every clinic in our directory against your inputs. The result: a ranked shortlist with the specific reasons each clinic was recommended — not a generic list sorted by ad spend.

01

You answer 6 questions

Condition to treat, symptom severity, prior treatments tried, insurance carrier (or self-pay), city/state, and whether you prefer in-person or telehealth intake. Takes about 90 seconds.

02

We score every clinic

Our database of 1,100+ verified clinics is filtered by condition specialization, insurance acceptance, in-network status, device capability, and proximity. Each match is ranked on weighted criteria.

03

You see the top 3

Each match shows a percentage fit score, the specific reasons it was recommended, the devices offered, accepted insurance, distance from your location, and patient ratings.

What the match score considers

Condition specialization
Does the clinic actively treat your condition? OCD clinics need BrainsWay deep TMS; anxious-depression patients need NeuroStar protocols.
Insurance acceptance & in-network status
Verified against payer rosters. In-network status reduces your out-of-pocket to a standard copay; out-of-network may still be partially covered.
TMS device and protocol availability
If you need theta burst (iTBS), SAINT, deep TMS, or accelerated protocols, only clinics with the right hardware and trained staff match.
Proximity and scheduling availability
Most patients attend 5 sessions per week for 4–6 weeks. Distance under 30 minutes dramatically improves completion rates.
Verified patient ratings and reviews
Clinic ratings come from verified patients who completed or discontinued treatment. We weight recent reviews more heavily than older ones.
Telehealth intake availability
If you'd rather not drive in for the initial consultation, we surface clinics offering telehealth intake and same-day insurance verification.
Real scenarios

How matching works in practice

Three example patients, three different paths. The same matcher that scores clinics for you also helps patients with very different needs find the right fit.

Scenario A

Matched to:
  • Clinic with NeuroStar + iTBS certified

  • 12-minute theta burst sessions
  • 4.8★ from 142 patients
Scenario B

  • NeuroStar with anxious-depression protocol
  • Telehealth intake + insurance verification
  • Shuttle service for rural patients
Why use match

A better starting point than a Google search

"TMS near me" returns 30 paid ads, 8 directories, and 12 clinic websites — none of which tell you whether the clinic actually treats your condition with a device your insurance covers. The match tool compresses that research into 90 seconds.

It also surfaces clinics you might miss: smaller practices with the right specialization, telehealth-friendly intake, or weekend hours. Most patients who use the match tool end up choosing a clinic they hadn't found on their own.

What the match tool is not

  • × Not a medical recommendation. We score clinics against your inputs; a psychiatrist makes the diagnosis and treatment decision.
  • × Not a lead-generation trap. We don't sell your data, and we don't require your email to see matches.
  • × Not pay-to-rank. Featured placement never affects match score — only your inputs do.
  • × Not a substitute for the eligibility quiz. If you haven't confirmed TMS is right for your condition, start with the 2-minute candidate quiz.
FAQ

Match tool — frequently asked questions

How does the TMS match tool work?

You answer 6 short questions about the condition you'd like treated, your symptom severity, prior treatments, insurance carrier, and location. We then score every clinic in our database against your answers, weighting condition specialization, insurance acceptance, in-network status, device capability, proximity, and verified patient ratings. The top three matches are shown with a percentage match score and the specific reasons each clinic was recommended.

Do I need insurance to use the match tool?

No. You can select "Self-Pay / No Insurance" and we'll surface clinics that offer transparent cash-pay pricing, payment plans, or financing. Most major insurance carriers (Medicare, BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Kaiser Permanente, Tricare) are supported.

Is my information private?

Yes. The match tool runs entirely in your browser — your answers are not stored, transmitted, or sold. We do not ask for your name, email, or contact information, and we do not share your inputs with clinics. If you choose to contact a matched clinic through their listing page, that interaction is between you and the clinic directly.

What if no clinics match my criteria?

If your state or insurance plan has no in-network matches, we expand the search radius and surface the closest out-of-network options. You'll also see telehealth-friendly clinics and self-pay providers. Many patients travel 30-60 minutes for treatment since sessions are 19 minutes and only 5 days a week for 4-6 weeks.

What conditions can TMS treat?

TMS is FDA-cleared for major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), smoking cessation, and migraine. It also has strong evidence (often covered by insurance) for anxiety, PTSD, and post-partum depression. Off-label and investigational uses include bipolar depression, ADHD, chronic pain, tinnitus, stroke rehabilitation, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and long COVID brain fog. The match tool accounts for which conditions each clinic actively treats.

What happens after I get a match?

Each match includes a clinic profile with the devices they use, accepted insurance, doctor credentials, verified patient reviews, and contact information. You can call the clinic directly, request a consultation through their profile, or use our eligibility quiz to confirm TMS is right for you. There is no cost and no obligation to contact a matched clinic.
