Replied to How I got my insurance to cover TMS after initial denial
Got my approval letter today after 4 months. Reading this whole thread back. To everyone still fighting — keep going. The system is beatable.
Replied to From barely surviving to actually living — TMS changed everything
If TMS helped you, please consider posting your own thread. The good stories save lives — I'm proof.
Replied to Headaches after TMS sessions — when do they stop?
Closing the loop on my own thread from last month — done with course, headaches gone for the last 14 sessions. It does end.
Replied to From barely surviving to actually living — TMS changed everything
I'm a year out now. Did one round of maintenance. The biggest thing TMS gave me wasn't relief — it was the energy to actually do therapy.
Replied to Can I do TMS if I have a metal dental implant?
Tongue piercing — they asked me to remove for sessions. Not a hard no, just a precaution.
Replied to Struggling with the waiting period before TMS starts
Asked my psychiatrist about ketamine as a bridge during the wait. Wasn't right for me but worth asking your provider about.
Replied to Struggling with the waiting period before TMS starts
Started yesterday after a 7-week wait. Want to tell anyone reading this: the wait ends and the work begins. You're not stuck forever.
Replied to Headaches after TMS sessions — when do they stop?
Tylenol 30 min before each session was a game-changer. Doc said it doesn't blunt the antidepressant effect, only the muscle activation pain.

The honesty about who's NOT a good candidate was refreshing. I wish more clinics led with that.
Replied to Can I do TMS if I have a metal dental implant?
If your implant is anywhere on the jaw or below, you're almost certainly fine. The coil's effective field drops off sharply outside ~3-4cm.
Replied to TMS for anxiety (not just depression) — my experience
GAD + panic disorder here. Eight months post-treatment and the constant-low-level dread is just… gone. Still get situational anxiety but it doesn't run the show.

Signed up! Can you address the difference between TMS providers? I've gotten quotes ranging from $6,000 to $15,000 and I don't understand why there's such a huge range. What should I be looking for in a good clinic?
Replied to How I got my insurance to cover TMS after initial denial
Wanted to update: I've since helped two friends navigate the same BCBS appeal process using this exact approach. Both got approved. Don't give up after the first denial!
Replied to From barely surviving to actually living — TMS changed everything
"Existing, not living" — I've never heard anyone describe it so perfectly. That's exactly where I was. 6 months post-TMS now and I feel like I got my life back.
Replied to TMS for anxiety (not just depression) — my experience
YES! I did TMS for anxiety + OCD last year. Similar protocol — right side targeting. The OCD improvements were slower but the anxiety relief was noticeable by week 3. My therapist said I was making more progress in CBT sessions after TMS, like it unlocked something.
